Oh, the places you'll go!

Libra - Try not to get too tense or stressed-out if you find yourself frustrated in your efforts to make progress today. You might be feeling a bit overwhelmed by small details and endless interruptions right now. But try not to let yourself get defensive, impatient or argumentative. Many of these little problems should be resolved before long.

Oh, the Places You'll Go!

by: Dr. Seuss.

Congratulations! Today is your day. You're off to great places! You're off and away!
You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own.
And you know what you know. And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go.

You won't lag behind, because you'll have the speed.
You'll pass the whole gang and you'll soon take the lead.
Wherever you fly, you'll be best of the best.
Wherever you go, you will top all the rest.

Except when you don't. Because, sometimes, you won't.
I'm sorry to say so but, sadly it's true that Bang-ups and Hang-ups can happen to you.
You can get all hung up in a prickle-ly perch. And your gang will fly on.
You'll be left in a Lurch.

You'll come down from the Lurch with an unpleasant bump.
And the chances are then that you'll be in a slump.
And when you're in a Slump, you're not in for much fun.
Un-slumping yourself is not easily done.

You will come to a place where the streets are not marked.
Some windows are lighted. But mostly they're darked.
A place you could sprain both your elbow and chin!
Do you dare to stay out? Do you dare to go in?
How much can you lose? How much can you win?
And IF you go in, should you turn left or right...or right-and-three-quarters?
Or, maybe, not quite?
Or go around back and sneak in from behind?
Simple it's not, I'm afraid you will find, for a mind-maker-upper to make up his mind.

You can get so confused that you'll start to race down long wiggled roads at a break-necking pace
and grind on for miles across weirdish wild space, headed, I fear, toward a most useless place.

The Waiting Place...

For people just waiting.
Waiting for a train to go or a bus to come, or a plane to go,
or the mail to come, or the rain to go or the phone to ring,
or the snow to snow, or waiting around for a Yes or No,
or waiting for their hair to grow.
Everyone is just waiting.
Waiting for the fish to bite or waiting for wind to fly a kite
or waiting around for Friday night or waiting, perhaps, for
their Uncle Jake, or a pot to boil, or a Better Break
or a string of pearls, or a pair of pants or a wig with curls, or Another Chance.
Everyone is just waiting.

NO! That's not for you! Somehow you'll escape all that waiting and staying.
You'll find the bright places where Boom Bands are playing.

Oh, the places you'll go!
There is fun to be done! There are points to be scored.
There are games to be won. And the magical things you can do with a ball will make you the winning-est winner of all.
You'll be famous as famous can be, with the whole wide world watching you win on TV.
Except when they don't. Because, sometimes, they won't. I'm afraid that some times you'll play lonely games too.
Games you can't win 'cause YOU'LL play against you.

And when you're alone, there's a very good chance you'll meet things that scare you right out of your pants.
There are some, down the road between hither and yon, that can scare you so much you won't want to go on.

But on you will go though the weather be foul. On you will go though your enemies prowl.
On you will go though the Hakken-Kraks howl.
Onward up many a frightening creek, though your arms may get sore and your sneakers may leak.
On and on you will hike.
And I know you'll hike far and face up to your problems whatever they are.

And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed! (98 and 3/4 percent guaranteed.)
Kid, you'll move mountains.

So...be your name Buxbaum or Bixby or Bray or Mordecai Ali Van Allen O'Shea, you're off to great places!
Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting.
So...get on your way!

So anyway, I just thought that I'd put that in my journal, because it has such a great message of hope, and of inspiration. I could very easily tangent on that, but I'll leave it alone, and try and re-cap what my weekend was. On Friday night, Richard and Lisa and I went out to the bar, and got more than a little drunk. We were sitting at the bar, drinking chocolate martini's, and then various other kinds of martini's, and before you know it, we are just drunk as skunks. Needless to say, I spent the good part of Saturday, flat on my back reeling from the pain of the hangover. Richard doesn't get hangovers, which is amazing to me. He gets drunk from the vanilla extract in a cookie, and yet doesn't get the slightest amount of a hangover. WHATEV! So sunday, was church and then I went with Richard to the auditions for the play that he is music directing this month, called "Working". I did that play when I was in high school, so I was very familliar with that show. Great show, loved it. So there weren't that many auditions for the show that day, so we just spent most of the time talking with the director of the show. She insisted that I audition, and I wasn't really in the mood to give up a whole month of my life for a community college that I didn't even attend. So I promptly turned her down.

On June 30, 1908, an object 165 feet wide is believed to have exploded 6.2 miles over the Tunguska region of Siberia with the force of a 10-megaton hydrogen bomb. Four hundred square miles of forest were flattened, untold numbers of reindeer were roasted and a man standing 60 miles away was knocked unconscious.

I hate when that happens! This is also a big thing that is happening in Kansas City on Tuesday. I guess I should mention that, since there really is no big news of the day.

So VOTE on Tuesday

Question 2

Ordinance No. 010745

Shall the City of Kansas City impose a City sales tax for the purpose of constructing, acquiring, renovating, equipping, furnishing, operating, and maintaining a light rail transit system serving Kansas City, Missouri, as authorized by Section 94.605 of the Revised Statutes of Missouri at a rate of ½% for a period of 25 years? Background A key recommendation of the FOCUS plan is to implement a fixed guideway transit like light rail in Kansas City, Mo. The City of Kansas City, Mo., Kansas City Area Transportation Authority, and citizens of Kansas City collaborated to develop an extensively researched proposal for light rail transit that would meet the requirements for the Federal Transit Administration for matching federal funds. This proposal, the Community Proposal for Light Rail, offers an opportunity to decide, based on professional research and planning, whether or not the City should build light rail transit. This is the first City-sponsored light rail proposal based on professional planning, and backed by funding from the Federal Transit Administration. The City is authorized to impose a sales tax, the use of which is only for transportation purposes under Section 94.605 under the Revised Statutes of Missouri, but this has not been utilized in the past. The City Council has agreed to fully support efforts to gain approval in the Missouri General Assembly for funding for public transit in Kansas City and the region. The City Council also supports similar efforts in the Kansas Legislature for regional transit improvements as well as continuing to coordinate with the KCATA and Mid-America Regional Council in studies for future expansion of the initial system to enhance transit throughout the entire region, including extension in accordance with the MARC Long Range Transit Plan, Transportation 2020. If Yes The ½% sales tax, if approved by the voters, would be collected over a 25-year period of time to provide the required local matching funds for construction of the proposed light rail system. Proceeds from the sales tax will also fund the maintenance and a portion of the operating costs of the system. This local commitment by the citizens of Kansas City is necessary before the federal match for capital funds can be requested. A portion of the tax proceeds will be used to acquire the right of way for future extensions to the airport and southern portions of Kansas City. If the sales tax is approved, the KCATA will, with the support of the City Council, request federal transit funds to pay for 60 percent of the cost for engineering and construction of the Community Proposal. If No If the voters do not approve the ½% sales tax, Kansas City will be unable to obtain federal funds to build light rail in Kansas City. There are no other funds available to build light rail transit in Kansas City.
